ALUMBRA VIDA – SENEGAL

Improving the electricity supply in a Maternity Center in Senegal

The "Alumbra Vida" project has been carried out at the Louly Bentegné Maternity Center (Senegal), with the aim that all women in the community and nearby towns can give life under better conditions.

The center, which provides prenatal and neonatal consultations, carries out vaccination campaigns and offers support in the field of family planning, had to face the poor quality of the country's electrical network (which caused numerous cuts in the electricity supply that prevented the daily activity of the center from developing), posing serious problems for its livelihood.

To address this energy poverty, the GFM Renovables Foundation went to the office to carefully study the needs they demanded and see how to respond to this situation.

After the inspection and detailed study, in which it was observed that its average consumption was 16.32 kw/day (5,956.8 kw/year) and taking into account the numerous power outages, the following solution was presented:

  • ALL IN ONE with a 5kw inverter and two 2.56kwh batteries, that is, they have a storage capacity of 5.12 kwh
  • 9 450w photovoltaic panels
  • Coplanar structure for installation on the building roof
  • Monitoring of parameters through the internet available at the center

This self-consumption means that the center has a daily production of 23.19 kwh (8,464.97 kwh/year) and has an increase in electricity of 42%, compared to its demand, thus guaranteeing the supply of energy during outages. that were produced in the electricity supply, thanks to a photovoltaic installation of 4kW of power, with a storage capacity of 5.12kWh.

The presence of solar panels and batteries enable this uninterrupted availability of electrical energy, essential for the proper functioning of the medical center.
