Improving the power supply in a hospital
GFM and the NGO Juan Ciudad contribute to ensuring healthcare services through the installation of a solar energy system.
The ‘Dalal-Xel’ Center, managed by the Hospitaller Order of Saint John of God (PHSJD), is a benchmark in comprehensive mental health care in Senegal, with over 20 years of experience.
The center serves around 18,000 people annually and is dedicated to raising awareness about mental disorders, training healthcare professionals, and fighting the stigmatization of patients. The instability of the electrical grid in the region posed a constant challenge to ensuring the continuity of medical care.
To address this issue, GFM has implemented:
- A photovoltaic system hybridized with the electrical grid, capable of generating an installed power of 52.2 kWp.
The installation not only ensures the center’s daily operations but also reduces its carbon footprint, contributing to the center’s energy independence and generating significant savings on the electricity bill.
The photovoltaic system has been installed on the building’s rooftop and is designed to cover both the center’s power consumption and store excess energy. Thanks to 30 kWh lithium batteries, the center can continue operating without interruptions during power outages, which is essential for patient care and the development of daily activities.
